Where to look for the missing fossil
Two independent walkthrough sources place the fossil in a restroom or toilet building around the main square. Search the interior carefully for the interaction prompt; the item can blend into the environment. This location is documented for the demo route.
Get into the Museum
The fossil does not unlock the front door by itself. First retrieve the Museum key from the Staff Center route, enter the Museum, and look for the highlighted fossil display. A recorded co-op run shows the group bringing the fossil inside before using it.
Place the fossil and check the opened door
Interact with the red-lit or highlighted display to place the missing fossil. The recorded route and written walkthrough both show this opening a door deeper in the Museum. Search the newly accessible area for the key that continues the southern route.
